About

About easyformatswap

easyformatswap is a free, private suite of format conversion tools designed to make file conversion simple, fast, and secure. Our mission is to provide powerful conversion capabilities that anyone can use without installing software, creating an account, or compromising their privacy.

Our Story

We built easyformatswap out of a simple frustration: converting files between formats often required uploading them to sketchy websites, downloading bloated software, or paying for expensive subscriptions. We believed there was a better way.

By leveraging modern browser technologies like WebAssembly, the File API, and Canvas, we created a set of tools that do all the heavy lifting right in your browser. No server uploads. No waiting in queues. No privacy concerns. Just fast, local conversion.

What We Believe

🔒

Privacy First

Your files never leave your device. All processing happens locally in your browser. We collect no data.

💸

Always Free

🌐

Open Web

Built on open web standards and open-source libraries. Works on any modern browser.

Our Tools

We currently offer five specialized conversion tools:

  • Image Converter — Convert between JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC with quality and resize controls. Batch processing supported.
  • PDF Converter — Three modes: convert PDFs to images, extract text from PDFs, or merge multiple images into a single PDF.
  • Media Converter — Transcode audio and video between MP4, MP3, WebM, WAV, and M4A formats using ffmpeg.wasm.
  • Unit Converter — Real-time bidirectional conversion for length, weight, temperature, and currency.
  • Compress Tool — Shrink images and PDFs to save storage space while preserving quality.

Technology

easyformatswap is built entirely with standard web technologies — HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — with no backend servers for file processing. The conversion engines run as WebAssembly modules directly in your browser:

  • libheif — HEIC/HEIF image decoding
  • pdf.js — PDF rendering and text extraction
  • pdf-lib — PDF generation and manipulation
  • ffmpeg.wasm — Audio/video transcoding
  • browser-image-compression — Image compression

We are grateful to the open-source community for making these powerful libraries available. This project would not exist without their work.
